The polar plunge is a decades long tradition in my hometown of Jacksonport that has seen hundreds of participants. The goal of the plunge is to take a swim in the ice cold water of Lake Michigan. The event has seen participants from all around the nation, including NFL athletes and Hollywood stars. The tradition started in 1986 as a lost bet and has happened every New Years Day since then.
